Detra Denay Davis, a seasonal Cottage Food Operator for 10 years, works tirelessly to help home food processors and home-based bakers take their products from kitchen to market. It is amazing the number of products that can be produced in the home kitchen and Denay's mission is to help food crafters realize their greatest potential and use your unique culinary talents to bring delicious, unique foods to their community. A Food Entrepreneur Instructor for the CPCC Small Business Center. Denay also facilitates the How to Start a Home-based Bakery Micro Course for the Wake County Lifelong Learning Community Schools. In March 2018 Denay launched Profits from Your Kitchen, an online course for home-based food processors. The course gives food processors basic information on business development and operating a micro business. Students learn how to develop their product idea, and the path they'll take to sell at farmers markets and local retail outlets. The course exposes students to product development responsibilities; understanding cottage food laws, rules and regulation. Profits from Your Kitchen is an entry level look into crafting specialty foods from the home kitchen.
